August

Writer: Wilma GundyWilma Gundy

August is a spendthrift

with Summer’s heat

Hot sauna nights

Long slow-paddle days

Squandering molten rays

on Mother Earth

Sun-drizzling lanqushing flowers

Bankrupting the currency

of Great Oak’s shade

Melting Patient’s coin

with unrelenting passion

August, meet September

Learn thrift from a cooler head

Wilma Gundy

(I suggest reading the poem aloud, listening to the “s”es and “z”es to get the effect of heat and steaming.)

You never cease to amaze me! That is a wonderful poem and it sums up how I am feeling right now in our heat!!
