Out Where the Crawdads Sing
Another of my favorite books is Out Where the Crawdads Sing for several reasons:
A truly original plot.
Well delineated and believable characters:
Kya, the Marsh girl, is unique in her ability to fend for herself and to create a memorable life and career.
The male characters are opposites, a rapist and care-giver.
The couple who run the filling station/grocery contrast with townspeople.
The mystery of the murder and how the truth is revealed symbolically.
Her writing is like poetry. I almost always re-read a paragraph because of its poetic beauty.
